What Is Inguinal Hernia Treatment?
An inguinal hernia occurs when a portion of the intestine protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles. This bulge can cause pain, especially when coughing or lifting heavy objects. Treatment for an inguinal hernia usually requires surgical intervention.

Diagnosis and Treatment
An inguinal hernia is typically diagnosed through a physical examination to check for swelling in the groin area. A urine test may also be performed to rule out pain caused by urinary tract infections or kidney stones.

Inguinal hernia treatment may involve surgically repairing the herniated area. This procedure is generally performed using one of two main methods:

Open Surgery: A large incision is made in the area of the hernia, the hernia sac is removed, and the weak spot is reinforced.

Laparoscopic Surgery: A minimally invasive method performed through smaller incisions with the aid of a camera. This technique can reduce recovery time and allow the patient to return to daily activities more quickly.

After surgery, patients are typically discharged within a few days, and rest along with limited physical activity is recommended for a certain period.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Inguinal Hernia
Inguinal hernia is typically diagnosed through a physical examination. The doctor checks for swelling in the groin area and evaluates the patient’s symptoms. A urine test may be conducted to rule out urinary tract infections, as such infections or kidney stones can cause pain similar to that of a hernia in the groin area.

Imaging tests may also be used to check for other conditions that present symptoms similar to a hernia. If the inguinal hernia does not interfere with daily life, surgery may not be necessary. However, if the hernia significantly affects the patient’s quality of life, surgical intervention may be required. Surgical treatment is the most common approach and is widely performed for inguinal hernias.

Treatment Methods

Robotic Surgery (Robot-Assisted Minimally Invasive Surgery):
Robotic surgery is a minimally invasive technique performed under the guidance of high-resolution, 3D imaging. During the operation, the surgeon controls the procedure from a console located a few steps away from the patient. One of the main advantages of robotic surgery is that it is performed through very small incisions, which accelerates the healing process and helps the patient return to daily activities sooner. The surgeon’s hand movements at the console are instantly translated into precise actions by the robotic instruments, allowing for highly accurate surgery.

Open Surgery:
Open surgery is usually performed under local or general anesthesia. The surgeon makes a large incision in the groin area, pushes the herniated tissue back into place, and reinforces the weakened area. The size of the incision may affect the healing time, and recovery can take longer compared to minimally invasive methods.

Laparoscopic Surgery (Minimally Invasive Surgery):
Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive method involving several small incisions in the abdominal area. The abdomen is inflated with gas to create working space, and a camera is used to view the internal area. The main advantage of laparoscopic surgery is faster recovery and a quicker return to normal activities.

Each of these surgical methods may be selected based on the size of the hernia, the patient’s overall health, and the surgeon’s preferences.
